Tonight, Dec. 3, Kelly Clarkson kicked off The Voice results show with a performance of her new Christmas song, “Underneath the Tree.” She spoke briefly with Carson after the performance and said she was looking forward to her second trimester. (Clarkson recently announced her pregnancy). She also plugged her upcoming Christmas special, set to air Dec. 11 on NBC.
Carson went to the coaches, and Adam hoped America had decided to keep his team together. CeeLo felt Tessanne really stood out last night. Christina agreed with Adam and told her fans she believes in her team so much, and the three of them have formed a bond that cannot be broken. Blake said he didn’t care if you had three artists in the competition or two – it only takes one to win.
Jacquie, Matthew, and Tessanne sang “You Got the Love” before Carson announced that Jacquie Lee was safe and through to the semi-finals next week.
Blake joined his Season One artist, Xenia, on stage for a performance of “Silver Bells.” This week’s confessionals included Christina saying she would have been a teacher if she wasn’t a singer, Blake feeling like a Sasquatch sitting next to Christina, and Matthew announcing he would have been a buffalo herder if he wasn’t a singer…because he loves buffalos.
Next, it was time for more results. Carson told the remaining contestants that Cole Vosbury was also safe.
Cole, James, and Will performed “More Than Words” with Extreme’s own Nuno Bettencourt. Then, Carson revealed that Tessanne Chin was safe.
The top six contestants gave a special Christmas performance of “O Holy Night.” Carson announced that Will Champlin was safe, leaving James and Matthew in the bottom two this week. Adam said that if America saved James, he had already decided what song he would sing next week, and he added that James is one of the best singers he has ever been in a room with. Christina told America to save Matthew because he was the first person to ever have all four coaches smack their buttons in record time during his first audition. She wanted to bring everyone back to his magical performances.
Carson went to Blake, and he didn’t want to sway anyone’s thoughts on Twitter – he said he saw a whole lot of James when he asked the question on his own Twitter account, but he added the coaches had been wrong just about every time they were asked. CeeLo said James and Matthew have been two of the most accomplished, dynamic people there, and he truly couldn’t pick. Finally, Carson revealed that America instantly saved James Wolpert, keeping Team Adam intact, sending Matthew Schuler home this week.
