Tonight, Dec. 9, the top five contestants kicked off The Voice Semi-Finals with a performance of “Best Day of My Life.” Blake sported a beard in support of Cole and clapped excitedly after the performance.
Adam brought his team over to his house for breakfast and discussed James’ close call last week, with America’s Instant Save keeping him in the competition.
James Wolpert took on U2’s “With or Without You.” Adam told James it was beyond what he thought he could do, and he was so proud. Christina commented that she had suggested that song for a coach performance, but she was happy to hear James sing it anyway. Blake thought James needed a moment like that and might have dug himself out of a hole.
Next up was Will Champlin, with Fun.’s “Carry On.” Adam was happy to see a smile on Will’s face, and he was gushing with pride. CeeLo thought it was cool to see Will “all swaggy up there” and said the song choice was great. Blake said he was wrapped up in it and thought Will would find out that opening his heart up and letting a smile out would go a long way in the competition.
Christina gave her final team member, Jacquie Lee, a tough song in Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel.” Christina was on her feet and told Jacquie she did things she didn’t even know she was going to do, and she was blown away. CeeLo said it was amazing, it was probably the most perfect, wonderful performance, and she did a great job. He even said just when he was feeling jaded that he didn’t have someone to root for, she reminded him that this is all his.
Blake brought Cole Vosbury to meet with CeeLo and get a haircut at the barber shop. CeeLo said Cole was getting better and better and could win. This week, Cole sang Garth Brooks’ “Shameless.” Blake was on his feet, giving Cole a standing ovation after the performance. He thought Cole accomplished his mission and connected with people before telling him “Let’s win this thing and get it over with.” CeeLo said what Cole does is very special, because every song he picks to perform, he makes his own.
Last up for the night was Tessanne Chin, who sang “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” It was hard for Adam to get a word in over the cheers from the crowd, but he managed to comment on the things going on in Tessanne’s life, as her friend, and he was speechless. Regardless of popular opinion, he thought it was probably the most flawless and graceful performance he had ever heard on the show. Blake said it was beautiful, and he is a big fan of hers.
