Season six of ‘The Voice’ has its top three finalists and they are: Team Adam’s Christina Grimmie, Team Blake’s Jake Worthington and Team Usher’s Josh Kaufman.
This means Tuesday night’s results show was the end of the road for Kristen Merlin from Team Shakira and Kat Perkins from Team Adam.
Merlin expressed her gratitude for getting as far as she has in the competition.
“I couldn't be more thankful to everybody who has voted me through and kept me in the running for everything,” said Merlin, whose appreciation for the coach she had throughout her journey on “The Voice” also runs deep. “Shakira is amazing. I love her! She's so awesome.”
And the feeling was no doubt mutual from the multiple Grammy award winning music sensation.
“I'm so proud of her,” said Shakira. “She has made it this far, and the fact that not a lot of people believed that she could make it this far makes even prouder.”
Merlin said Shakira’s early belief in her always meant a great deal to her; as did her recognition of her being someone that inspires others to pursue their passions.
“That resonates with me a ton because since this whole journey I have gotten a lot of messages from people saying I'm an inspiration to them and that they're chasing stuff now. They're like, ‘You're fearless. That's amazing! I want to be fearless.' And so it's awesome! Because to me it's like go after it! Don't let anyone tell you no! You're not good enough or you can't, said Merlin. “It's awesome that me doing what I love to do is inspiring them to do stuff like that.”
Merlin was the first Country artist ever to be on Team Shakira. When persuading Merlin to pick her as her coach, Shakira promised her she would have Miranda Lambert be their team advisor. A promise she definitely kept! Had Merlin made it through to the finals, she would have been the first artist to ever represent Team Shakira in the finale. Regardless, when speaking with Shakira on Merlin, it was certain how thrilled she is of Merlin’s success on “The Voice”.
“She's an amazing girl. She's got such a distinguished voice. She’s recognizable. I am so happy with her.”
“The Voice’s” two-night finale airs Monday and Tuesday at 8pm est on NBC.
