Tonight’s two-hour season finale of “The Voice” (airing Dec. 17, 2013) will crown the Season 5 champion and with it bring an end to one of the closer, more competitive seasons in recent years. This recap will fill you on who wins this season of “The Voice” as well as give you some insight into what went down during the finale.
Unlike the last few seasons, going into last night’s live performances there was no clear cut leader so it was safe to assume that all three of the final contestants were in a position to win. That means the drama will be heavy in tonight's finale results show.
As you might imagine, the finale is packed full of filler. It will only take a few minutes to crown the winner, so they have plenty of time to kill.
The first hour of the finale features the return of several of this season’s contestants including Caroline Pennell, Cole Vosbury, James Wolpert, Ray Boudreaux, Preston Pohl, Matthew Schuler, Josh Logan, Johnny Grey, Austin Jenckes, Shelbie Z, Amber Nicole, Stephanine Anne Johnson, Kat Robichaud, Grey and Nic Hawk. In groups and teaming up with different finalists, these returning singers perform a variety of group songs. We also get a duet with Tessanne Chin and Celine Dion as well as a performance by One Republic!
As we move into the second hour Celine Dion returns with Ne-Yo to sing their song “Incredible.” Jacquie gets a chance to team up with Hayley Williams and her band Paramore to sing “Ain’t It Fun.” Will Champlin's celeb duet features him and Aloe Blacc singing “Wake Me Up.”
Earlier in the season there was a moment in an episode where Carson Daly and the coaches answered fan tweets. Someone asked Carson what his dream guest for the show would be. One of the names he said was Lady Gaga. His wish becomes reality as Lady Gaga takes the stage to sing her hit duet “Do What You Want.” The song normally features R. Kelly, but tonight Christina Aguilera steps in. The once feuding ladies clearly have made up and look great in matching gold outfits.
At last it is time to get down the business of crowning a winner. Carson announces that the singer finishing in third place is Will Champlin. Then, after some dramatic pause, he announces the Season 5 winner of "The Voice" is Tessanne Chin! She instantly becomes emotional as she tries to sing the original song that she will now release as a single. After her last two songs hit #1 on the iTunes charts it was no big surprise that the Jamaican songstress took home the crown.
There we have have it. Another season of "The Voice" is in the bag. I hope you enjoyed it and have a happy holidays.
