The Voice contestant sings Miranda Lambert song, impresses Blake Shelton

When Miranda Lambert introduced her new, all girl band The Pistol Annies at the ACM Girls Night: Superstar Women of Country show in early 2011, their debut single Hell on Heels amazed the crowd.   With country music fans having come to love Hell on Heels as a three part harmony, it was quite daring for a young contestant on The Voice to attempt the song alone.  However, that's just what RaeLynn of Baytown, Texas did and she got the attention of the coach she wanted.

In the pre-performance package, The Voice coach Carson Daly, asked 17 year old RaeLynn, "Who do you hope turns their chair around?"

She responded enthusiastically, "I would love for Blake to.  I mean, I love him and his wife.  They're like my favorite country artists."

As RaeLynn took the stage as the first performer of the night, it was anybody's guess whether the coaches would choose a contestant right away or try to hold out for what they deemed as the best voices, but RaeLynn started off strong and got the attention of Adam Levine right away.  Only a few seconds passed, however, before Blake Shelton heard what he needed to hear, a little extra push in RaeLynn's voice as she dug her own heels into Hell on Heels.

An obviously thrilled RaeLynn suddenly found herself with the ability to choose between the coach she'd dreamed of and another coach, who pushed his button for her very quickly, acknowledging her talent with only a few lyrics having passed her lips.  Being chosen by two Grammy nominated artists was quite an honor for this young girl.

Of course, both coaches engaged in the usual banter and jockeying to get their contestant, but in the end, how could RaeLynn not go with Blake Shelton after stating that Miranda Lambert was her inspiration.   In choosing Blake Shelton as her coach, RaeLynn became Blake Shelton's first contestant of twelve, and the only contestant on Team Blake at the end of the first night.

There are still a lot of contestants to see, but RaeLynn certainly brought a powerful country voice to start off Blake Shelton's team.  Can the first contestant chosen still be standing as the last?  It will be quite exciting to see how the story unfolds on The Voice as season two gets underway.
