“The Voice” 2013 continued Oct. 29 on NBC with the second and final night of season five knockout round action. By night’s end, each of the four superstar coaches had completed their respective five-member teams, whittling the total of live show-bound finalists to just the top 20.
First to complete his team was country star and three-time “The Voice” winner Blake Shelton, who added soul singer Ray Boudreaux and the guitar-toting Austin Jenckes to the fold following their respective knockout round victories. The two rounded out the group already populated by Oct. 28 electees Nic Hawk, Cole Vosbury, and the sole female member of Team Blake, pageant girl Shelbie Z.
Up next to put the finishing touches on his team was CeeLo Green. He added Caroline Pennell, whose sweet rendition of “The Way I Am” prompted Shelton to say that her voice made him want to buy a cat and cuddle under a pink blanket while drinking hot cocoa, and the gospel-rooted Tamara Chauniece. The two girls joined night one qualifiers Amber Nicole, Kat Robichaud, and Team CeeLo’s lone male representative, veteran Jonny Gray.
Finally, Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine completed their respective squads after the final knockout round battle. While Aguilera opted to keep powerhouse vocalist Matthew Schuler on her team after he belted “Cosmic Love,” Levine snagged battle loser Will Champlin on the merits of his version of Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man.”
Schuler completed Team Christina’s line-up, which also boasts Josh Logan, Olivia Henken, Jacquie Lee, and Stephanie Anne Johnson, who she opted to steal from Team CeeLo. In addition to Champlin, Team Adam features a powerhouse collection of vocalists in Tessanne Chin, Grey, Preston Pohl and James Wolpert.
“The Voice” 2013 resumes Nov. 4 on NBC with the first of three nights of action by the top 20.
