The Virginia State Fair is a delight for all ages. Over 50 rides and close to 25 shows and attractions await attendees at this year’s Virginia State Fair. The fair opened this past weekend and the nice weather brought out many patrons. The fair is at The Meadow Event Park in Doswell, Virginia, just off I-95 exit 98.
Fair organizers have placed a greater focus on agriculture this year. Spectators can see paddocks and corrals of over 1,000 animals as part of livestock competitions. Fair food is abundant including cotton candy, candied apples, funnel cakes and the like. Visitors can also play games to win prizes of plastic toys and stuffed animals.
School groups, bands, scouting groups, and agricultural education groups have helped to contribute to the shows and entries of the best of Virginia products. The fairgrounds are roughly 20 miles north of Richmond. Patrons drive from as far as Pennsylvania and the Carolinas. According to the Free Lance Star, attendance is high compared to previous years for Virginia’s State fair. More information and ticket prices can be found here.
