Everyone has always questioned whether or not King Arthur was actually a real historical figure. It's a debate that has gone on since the Renaissance. The Tudor monarchs traced their lineage to Arthur. Arthur was used as a justification for their reign. It has been generally assumed that there actually was a person at the heart of the legends. However, they are not so sure he was an actual king with a band of knights in shining armor.
It is believed that Arthur gained notarity as a warrior that battled Germanic invaders in the late fifth and early sixth centuries. However, there is no conclusive evidence for or against Arthur, so the debate continues. Arthur's influence on literature, art, music and society from the Middles Ages to present can not be denied. He is a legendary figure of the late Middle Ages that has captured the imagination.
