The North Charleston Village Antiques Show is the only regularly held antiques show in the Charleston SC/Lowcountry area - and its next show is August 23-24, 2014. The most ardent antique hunters value it, however, they have been making themselves scarce lately. It is very sad that it is not very well attended, in spite of all the attempts of the City of North Charleston, Mayor Summey and Lisa Reynolds, the manager of the show.
There are some really great antique dealers there with quality antiques like Melissa Henley, Peggy Smith and Cindy Mizzell, with her collection of vintage linens and nostalgic things like Big Ben clocks. And, there are a few other people who sell things there on a regular basis worth following.
The location of the shows is the old center of Park Circle, in an old gym-like, unattractive building, that is not very well lit. At least there is easy parking close to the building. Unfortunately, nothing much of interest ever happens at the Felix Davis Community Center. No one really wants to go there, no matter what the bargains are.
Many antique dealers are slowly losing interest in the show as it is just not profitable to set up and spend the time and money to put on a good show when there are so few true antique shoppers there who appreciate the finer things in life.
For people who are the true die hard antiquers, who know how hard it is to find a real find, this is not a problem. You just show up, see everything, and hope for something of value that is underpriced. It is more of a buyers market. What more could anyone want?
It seems odd that people would go all the way to Atlanta, GA to look for antiques at bargain prices when they could just more conveniently go to the North Charleston Show.
The last show on June 28-29, 2014 had some very good quality antiques even though there were not as many antique dealers there as there used to be. The next show on August 23-24, 2014 should have many bargains for those willing to go and find out what they have this time. This is a good antiques show for anyone knowledgeable about antiques. You never know what you might miss if you don’t go and find out. The next show after that is not until Oct. 24-25. More information can be found at the website of the city of North Charleston, SC.
