The Vendy Awards: Street trucks face off in MacArthur Park this weekend

The Vendy Awards are coming to L.A.!

The perennial New York food favorite will take place May 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at  MacArthur Park (2230 W. 6th St Los Angeles, CA, 90057).

Emceed by Jeff Miller, editor of Thrillist.com, the event pits some of the top representatives of L.A.'s street food scene against one another: The India Jones Chow Truck, specializing in portable Indian snacks; Hot Dog Kings; farmers market staple Bigmista's Barbecue; Nina's Food featuring Mexican specialties; everyone's favorite Grilled Cheese Truck; and Tacaos el Galuzo representing Jalisco-style Mexican cuisine.

Perhaps even more notable than the contestants are the L.A. food celebs judging the event:
Evan Kleiman, host of KCRW's "Good Food" and executive chef/owner of Angeli Caffe; blogger and street food expert Javier Cabral; Animal chef/owners Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo; and Bill Esparza, founder of the Street Gourmet LA blog.

Tax-deductible tickets are $50 (all you can eat and drink) and proceeds will go toward charities that work toward advocacy and support of street vendor rights, including The Street Vendor Project, the Coalition for Humane Immigrants Rights of Los Angeles, and the UCLA Downtown Labor Center.
