'The Vampire Diaries' season 6: Where are Damon and Bonnie?

On the season 5 finale of "The Vampire Diaries," the Other Side finally collapsed. When it did, Damon and Bonnie vanished from the screen. Some viewers thought that they were dead in the permanent, not-coming-back sense. However, executive producer Julie Plec assured fans that Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham would return. So now the question is if the Other Side is gone, then where are they? On Aug. 13, WetPaint discussed this mystery.

Season 6 is going to be a "reset" and everyone is going to get to start over. Even though the last few seasons have had complicated and complex storylines, this year the show will go back to its roots. There will be plenty of mystery, suspense and psychological horror. One mystery is where Bonnie and Damon went.

The question of where Bonnie and Damon ended up will be answered by the conclusion of "The Vampire Diaries" season 6, episode 2. TV Guide reported that where they are will look familiar. However, it is someplace that is foreign to them. Then the website teased,

"Perhaps it's not the where that matters at all!"

WetPaint is speculating that it might have something to do with time travel. Previous "TVD" spoilers have stated that Damon and Bonnie won't be in a torturous place, but it won't be somewhere great either. One website wrote that it sounded like purgatory. The time travel theory sounds much better than the pair ending up in purgatory. The show has done plenty of flashbacks, but seeing what is ahead would be an interesting twist.

Wherever they are, chances are they might find their way back to Mystic Falls. It would be strange to leave them in one place, plane or dimension for all eternity while everyone else is in another. It would be like two different shows and it wouldn't really have a purpose as far as Damon and Bonnie are concerned. They must find their way back because Elena is going to be handling her grief in really strange ways. Besides, with the announcement of a new villain, wouldn't it be great if Bonnie and Damon returned home just in time to kick some Big Bad butt?

What do you think is so familiar, yet foreign about where Damon and Bonnie end up? Fans won't have to wait long to find out. "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 premiere will air on the CW on Oct. 2
