Fans saw the return of Alaric on "The Vampire Diaries" season five finale. Matt Davis is back, and he is back as a full cast member for season six. Alaric died at the end of season three, but he popped up from time to time on the series. Now, he will be back in a more permanent way. On May 19, Wetpaint Entertainment revealed what Alaric's role will be next season.
Alaric is back when he is definitely needed the most. Damon is gone, and his 'death' will have an impact on everyone. Stefan lost a brother. Elena lost the man she loved. Alaric will definitely be there for Elena while she is grieving Damon. Julie Plec revealed that Alaric will definitely step up to be there for the Gilbert siblings like he has in the past. Elena will also help Alaric deal with hiding his vampire side as well.
This answers one of the questions fans have. Tyler came back from the other side, and he was not a hybrid anymore. Some wondered if that meant the vampires would be human. That is not the case if Alaric will seek help from Elena in hiding that he is a vampire. He became a vampire just before his complete death in season three.
Julie Plec teased to From Inside The Box that Alaric will think that being a vampire "is weird." He won't really like it either. However, he is definitely an Original vampire, and season six will definitely explore what that means. With Esther back in someone else's body next season on "Thr Originals" on CW, it does open the door for a crossover there. Fans will need to wait and see if Esther and the newly returned Alaric will cross paths next season.
