If you're still reeling from that emotional roller coaster that was the "Vampire Diaries" season 5 finale last night, there is some good news that may help just a bit. On Thursday, May 15, TV Guide reported that Matt Davis is going to be back full-time in season 6. Yes, he is a series regular once again.
The season 5 finale, "Home," saw the Other Side falling apart and the race to save their friends was on. After Lexi found Stefan, they tried to track down Alaric, checking out the Grill and the high school, but it wasn't until Elena and Damon died that Alaric showed up, sending Elena to Bonnie and taking care of finding Damon. However, when the time came to pass through the anchor, Alaric made it through, but Damon did not before Luke stopped his sister from continuing the spell because of what it was doing to her.
In the end, Alaric was alive, but Damon was dead, and that wasn't the only blow to the group. While grieving for Damon, Elena and Alaric, along with the others, heard Jeremy yelling for Bonnie, and as the finale ended, Damon and Bonnie stood together on the Other Side as it collapsed, and with a bright light, the episode was over. So Alaric was back, but Damon and Bonnie were gone.
Alaric has had quite a few roles in his time on "TVD." He's been a vampire hunter and history teacher, guardian to Elena and Jeremy, drinking buddy/best friend to Damon, crazy dark Original killer and ghost, but what will we see from him in season 6? Where does everyone go after that finale and the losses they've suffered? All we have so far is a vague tease, from the CW press release of its 2014 fall primetime schedule: "While the cliffhanger will send our characters reeling, season six will be the story of their journey back to each other as they explore the duality of good versus evil inside themselves on their quest to reclaim their home."
"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 will air on the CW Thursdays at 8 p.m. in the fall. Are you happy that Alaric is going to be sticking around?
