Most spoilers about the vampire series have been focused on what happened to Damon and Bonnie after the Other Side collapsed. While those are interesting, there are other things that will be happening in the upcoming season, too. One of those things is a Big Bad to make the characters lives difficult and/or deadly.

Every show has at least one villain and some shows keep the same one while others have a new villain every season. After the season 5 finale, viewers wondered who or what would cause trouble in Mystic Falls next. It turns out that the new Big Bad isn't so big after all. Sound confusing? Perhaps a quote from executive producer Julie Plec will explain things a bit.

E! Online asked her for information on the new villain. She confirmed that there will be one, but it will unfold not right away, but over the course of the entire season. She stated,

"There is a big bad. it's a long, slow-burn mythology that will unfold over the course of the entire season and will really impact each of our character in deep ways and it's smart and it's interesting and it's small, which I like."

It's interesting that Plec said it was small, but that it would affect everyone in deep ways. Carter Matt observed some additional details and it sounds like things are going to be really interesting. It is about the buildup of the Big Bad,

"This reminds us in a way of the show’s second season, where it took a very long time for Klaus to ever really enter the picture at all. The writers instead too their time of building up this incredibly-feared character, and by the time that he actually arrived on the scene, you knew that he was super-terrible news. The buildup for him was completely different than anything that the show has ever done since, and we’d love to see them go more in this direction again rather than making it less clear just who is the real villain to worry about."

The past few years, "The Vampire Diaries" has gotten more complicated. The show was still incredibly awesome and addicting, but it was complex. Plec said that in season 6, things are going to go back to the way they were in the first two seasons. She explained that every season they try to top themselves, but now it is time to scale back. They want to keep it personal and rooted in character.

What do you think about the Big Bad in "The Vampire Diaries" season 6? Are you looking forward to seeing the show going back to their original style?
