After the shocking season finale, fans are excited to see what "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 has in store. While the vampire series won't return to the CW for a while, there is already a lot of information available. On May 22, Hollywood Hills revealed some information. The website stated that the upcoming season will feature more psychological horror.
The overall plotline will be changed drastically. But instead of things becoming more complex, executive producer Julie Plec wants to simplify things. In the upcoming season, "TVD" fans will get to learn more about the emotional lives of the characters. Also planned is for the show to develop more psychological horror storylines.
Most shows want to keep viewers coming back season after season. So naturally the storylines become more complicated and complex. There is a feeling that you need to top what has been done before. Plec explained to TV Guide that after so many years, that feeling to top themselves gets strangling. She also said,
"What we all love about the show is the simplicity of tension and mystery and not necessarily needing to outdo ourselves with magic or mythology every year. So we really wanted to tee up the circumstance where we could really blow out the mythology of the series in the way it’s represented and begin fresh."
Plec also made it clear that simple does not mean boring. She said that there will be a "substantial" time jump. It will give the characters enough time to grieve and viewers will see them either moving on with their lives, spiraling to a different place or making rash decisions. She added that mysteries that are simple, yet new and powerful can bring people back to the feelings in the first season.
What do you think about the plotline of "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 being changed? Would you like to see the show go into less of the supernatural and feature more psychological horror? What do you think will happen with the characters?
