There hasn't been much news to report on "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 except for the recent announcement of Gabrielle Walsh joining the "TVD" family. However, she won't be the only new face in Mystic Falls. Today, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that actor Colin Ferguson will also be joining Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev in the vampire series.

Ferguson will make his debut in the season 5 premiere as Tripp. His character is described as being handsome, disciplined and strong. The website also reported that Tripp will be the head of a community militia as well as a father figure to his young trainees, who will do whatever they have to to protect the town. Executive producer Julie Plec teased on Twitter that Tripp can also be expected to give Sheriff Forbes a run for her money.

Not much else about Tripp has been revealed yet, but as "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 comes closer to airing there will probably be more hints and teasers about the character. There will likely be more new characters added, but fans will have to wait to find out for sure.

Deadline recently reported that Gabrielle Walsh has been cast to play Sarah in the upcoming season. The website stated that her character will arrive in Mystic Falls with street smarts, spunk and a shady agenda. It will be a recurring role and like Colin Ferguson, she will be introduced in "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 premiere.

It was previously reported that Matt Davis and Michael Malarkey would be returning to the series. Fans can expect "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 to have the theme of everyone being able to start over, Plec told THR. Instead of going bigger, the writers are going to be bringing the show back to the way it was in the beginning. Look forward to suspense, tension, psychological horror, secrets and of course, romance.

What do you think of Colin Ferguson and Gabrielle Walsh being cast in "The Vampire Diaries" season 6? What are your theories on the roles of Tripp and Sarah?
