Is it possible to trap Markos? They're certainly going to try in next week's "The Vampire Diaries," episode 5x21, "Promised Land," and on Thursday, May 1, the CW released a new sneak preview teasing what to expect in the season's penultimate episode.
In the latest episode, Stefan, Damon, Elena and Caroline hid from Markos, but ghost Enzo wanted revenge – and took Luke out of the equation so the Travelers could find them. Oh, and set fire to the shed he put Luke in when Stefan and Damon found him. However, Damon told him about the Other Side falling apart, and it came down to this: "Don't let me down again," Enzo warned.
Meanwhile, while he had control of his body, Tyler escaped from the Travelers and told the others what was going on. Matt and Jeremy had a "conversation" (if you can define conversation by "inflicted pain and more pain") with Julian until he told them where his body was. When Jeremy and Bonnie went looking, the Travelers showed up and incapacitated Jeremy until they left with Julian's body – and then burned it to make Julian in Tyler's body permanent.
Finally, Damon gave in and kissed Elena because he "needed it" after his day. However, after he walked away, the Travelers showed up at the cabin, chanting, and Markos grabbed Elena.
In this next "TVD" episode, Stefan and Elena escape from Markos' control only to find themselves stranded in a remote location, giving them the perfect chance for Stefan to get philosophical about Elena and Damon's relationship. Speaking of the doppelgangers, after Liv and Luke's attempt to protect them goes badly, the twins come up with a dangerous new strategy.
Meanwhile, Damon recruits Matt and Jeremy to help set a trap for Markos, but Markos has a devastating surprise of his own. Bonnie finally admits to Caroline that she's been hiding the truth about the Other Side from anyone, but while the anchor tries to find a way to stop Markos, the vampire sees an unthinkable act of violence by one of the Travelers.
The "Promised Land" promo shows that Liv and Luke's new plan is not one that anyone is going to be on board with, as they want to kill Stefan and Elena. Well, at least one of them. Then, to add to the drama, Markos says the spell has already begun. "We have a problem," Damon says. Uh, Damon, you have more than one problem.
Plus, don't forget to check out the slideshow to see the promotional photos the CW has released from this episode. You can see Elena on the ground between the twins – and it doesn’t look good for her. What exactly are they doing?
