'The Vampire Diaries' season 5 episode 11 clip: Elena and Damon post-breakup

"The Vampire Diaries" season 5 celebrates a milestone with next week's episode 11, "500 Years of Solitude," the series' 100th episode, and on Friday, Jan. 17, the CW released a sneak peek offering a look at Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) post-breakup.

In the "TVD" 100th episode, after the heart attack Katherine suffered in "Fifty Shades of Grayson," everyone remembers Katherine and she remembers the traumatic night in 1490 when she gave birth to the daughter who was immediately taken from her. Nadia (Olga Fonda) comes up with a frightening plan to protect her mother, and Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena are forced to help her.

Meanwhile, Caroline (Candice Accola) is mortified when she realizes she didn't tell Elena the latest shocking gossip and indulges in some scandalous behavior of her own. Finally, Elena and Katherine share an unexpected moment of connection.

The "500 Years of Solitude" sneak peek, however, is about none of that. Instead, it gives us a look at Elena and Damon post-breakup, and while Elena has her friends bringing her a "breakup breakfast," Jeremy and Matt discuss the breakup over Damon's head. "Who spends two years pining after a girl to dump her?" Matt wonders. Caroline continues to be firmly Team Stefan (or at least against Team Damon) as she reminds Elena and Bonnie (Kat Graham) of Damon's breakup speech, and yes, she memorized it.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 5 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on the CW. What do you think of this episode 11 "500 Years of Solitude" sneak peek?
