"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 hasn't even begun airing, but there is already some news about season 7. E!Online reported Friday that only two of the three main stars has signed on for a seventh season. Could this mean that either Damon, Stefan or Elena will be killed off?

Before viewers go into a panic, it is quite common for some contract negotiations to take longer than others. Just because one of the actors has not signed on for a seventh season doesn't meant that they won't. It just means that an agreement hasn't been reached it. With that being said, it is quite possible that the holdout doesn't want to continue or perhaps they have other projects they are interested in.

Warner Bros. does not comment on contract negotiations, so all fans can do right now is speculate on who is holding out. However, E!Online learned that multiple inside sources say that the remaining actor isn't sure they want to go on with "The Vampire Diaries."

Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley and Elena Gilbert are all popular stars on the show. Even though "TVD" could continue without one of them, there would be some fans upset that their favorite was off the show. The series is insanely successful and 2009 was the CW networks highest-rated premiere ever, clocking in with 5.7 million viewers. Last season, the show had an average of just over 2 million viewers, which is still considered strong by the network's standards.

If all three stars signed on for another season, "The Vampire Diaries" would have a pretty good chance of getting picked up for season 7. However, E!Online heard that the CW could consider giving the show the green light for another season even without the trio. This would give some of the other characters a chance to be in the limelight.

At Comic-Con, executive producer Julie Plec said that they have plans for the sixth and seventh seasons. She wants to be a part of it as long as she can continue telling good stories and that the people that she works with want to be there, are dedicated and committed. She also added,

"So, so far so good, you know. We'll see how long we can stay, doing it well. We'll make sure that we don't start sucking."

What do you think of one of the main stars not committing to "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 yet? Do you think they are still negotiating or will "TVD" lose a beloved character? If Ian, Paul or Nina chooses not to go on, should the show continue?
