'The Vampire Diaries': Ian Somerhalder gives advice to aspiring actors

Ian Somerhalder did not find success immediately as an actor, but he has since emerged thanks to "Lost" and "The Vampire Diaries" as one of the most-popular names in TV -- in particular with young people.

Thanks to his journey, Ian is capable of knowing what it takes to make it big -- and with this in mind, he passes along some major advice to aspiring actors in a new chat with STATUS:

“It takes more perseverance and tenacity to do the job. There are so few slots for work. But honestly, the only advice I could give—and I’m just bad with advice—is if you’re auditioning, you have to do the work. You have to find what you’re saying, why you’re saying it. You just have to, and I think the easiest way to do that, honestly—I sound like an advertisement for it, but James Franco, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, and I used it—is to just read the d--n book: Ivanna Chubbuck’s The Power of the Actor."

Ian is going to be keeping his role as Damon Salvatore on the hit CW show for some time, but we know that in addition to that he has been scouring some film proects. While he has been fairly tight-lipped about just what these projects are, he seems to be working hard in order to secure them.

Would you listen to Ian or any other TV star for advice?
