'The Vampire Diaries' hoping to add gay character

Someone new could be joining "The Vampire Diaries" -- and, if executive producer / creator Kevin Williamson has it his way, it could be a gay character.

Here is what the man behind the show had to say in a new interview:

"I'm sitting in the wings waiting. I'm waiting. Which character can be gay? Which character won't? Where will it fit in? How can I get the gay character in? I don't want to sound like I'm a militant about it, like THERE MUST BE A GAY CHARACTER, even though I am. It's not just that, it's also diversity. I always feel like I don't have enough diversity on my show, and that is one of the things I'm very conscientious of, and not just gay characters. Any diversity. In anything, I want everyone represented. I want everybody on the show."

Williamson also added that he wants to differentiate this show from his past work on "Dawson's Creek" -- if he has a gay character, he wants to make sure to differentiate the two storylines.

While Williamson is working hard to include this character, CBS was recently criticized by GLAAD for not having enough representations of sexuality on their network.

What sort of characters do you want to see on the show?

I think it's great that Williamson wants to include a gay character, however, I do not agree that he should be forced to have one or criticized for not having one on the show. That's just ridiculous. If the people on a show want a gay character, or even more than one, then great, but if not, OH WELL! It's not the end of the freaking world.

Oh please....please don't add a gay character...the show is a sci-fi about vampires...and maybe werewolves (????), adding a gay character would ruin this show. I quit watching Heroes when they added the gay character, not because I am prejudice, but because then the hype centers around that...which takes away from the real meaning of the show. I love Vampire Diaries...and I hate to stop watching it when the type is taken away from the show and centers on hollywood's new agenda. PLEASE!

INCLUDE A GAY CHARACTER OR HAVE JERMEY AND TYER AND OUT THEM TOGETHER CUZ I HEARD THAT THEY ARE GOING TO "BOND" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness! They should definitely make it Jeremy and maybe Tyler. I've always gotten the vibe from Jeremy. Plus Tyler and Jeremy are supposed to bond, lets push it a step further.
