The Thursday, March 6 episode of "The Vampire Diaries," 515, "Gone Girl," gives us "Friends" flashbacks when it boils down to, "She knows we know she knows we know."

Hungry, hungry Dr. Damon This "TVD" episode sees Damon still locked up in the basement of the house, chained up and everything, and Stefan has him on a strict four ounces of blood, three times a day diet. Well, at least that's his plan. That all goes to hell when Damon very easily manipulates Tyler to step into the room and get in his face by bringing up, what else, Caroline and Klaus. Damon feeds, breaks free and finds Dr. Wes to make him his test subject. If test subject can mean "here, lie down on this table and let me do bad things to you and not in a good way." "What's up, doc?" Damon greets the man who's made his life hell. "I didn't do this to you. You are this. I simply held up the mirror," the mad scientist tells him. Damon doesn't care. "It's my turn to play doctor," he tells him before taking a scalpel to his eye. Now that's one way to get rid of a character who's lived episodes past his expiration date.

Mother-daughter bonding time comes too late With Nadia dying from Tyler's bite, Katherine finally spends time with her – and Nadia doesn't exactly let her off the hook for her recent behavior. "If I'd have known I just had to die to drag your attention from Stefan, I'd have tried it a long time ago." "I'm going to be a better mother, starting right now. I promise you. I'm going to save your life," Katherine tells her, and she even goes so far as to bring Dr. Wes in to try to create an antidote.

Meanwhile, everyone finally knows what they should've realized a while ago. Katherine's secret is out, and they're left wondering how they didn't see it. "Because it's Katherine, and she's smart and conniving and sneaky, and we're the worst friends ever," Caroline says, summing it up pretty well. Katherine's the one who did all the horrible things, like helping Tyler find out about Klaus and Caroline and using Caroline's toothpaste. Since this is Katherine they're dealing with, they realize they have to trick her, so that means trying to lure her out. Caroline calls about a surprise party for Bonnie, and Bonnie calls about meeting up for coffee, but they just seem clingy, so when Damon readily agrees to meet "Elena," Katherine knows that they know, and Stefan and Damon realize that she knows they know. ("Friends" flashback!)

That means Katherine's ready to skip town with her daughter, but when she gets to Wes' new makeshift grungy lab, Damon had already made his house call, and Stefan calls to tell her they have her daughter. Bonnie and Jeremy once again turned to Liv for a locator spell (thanks to Damon's suggestion as he continued to starve in his chains; even vampire blood-hungry, he's more on top of his game than others), and as Bonnie sat there jealous as Liv let her interest in Jeremy show like a neon sign. Katherine has a choice: run like she always does or say goodbye to her daughter.

Matt continues to be the best by pretending to be Gregor and forgiving Nadia in a cliché deathbed moment, and then comes time for Katherine and Nadia's goodbye. "I won't leave you again," Katherine tells her daughter, and yes, if she had asked Klaus for his blood and outed herself, it would've saved her. But it's too late. "My mother's name is Katherine. I'm looking for her," Nadia says, and Katherine tries to get her daughter to focus on her, there, in the present. "She is a liar and a murderer. She manipulates. She betrays. She'll do anything to survive," Nadia continues from her memories of all those years searching for her mother. Like we've seen before, Katherine gives Nadia a look at "what [her] perfect day would have been like," with Katherine tucking her into bed like a mother should. It's a sad moment, and seeing Katherine's failed-attempt-until-it's-too-late at being a mother has been a highlight of the season.

With Nadia dead, Katherine tries to fall back on what she's always done and run, but Damon's at the door blocking her exit. This is it. But which one of them is going to kill Katherine? She walks around to everyone to say her goodbyes and get a few last digs in, and it's when she turns to Stefan that he stabs her. "Then I guess this is how our love story ends," she says before falling back and collapsing on the ground next to her daughter's body.

Say what you need to say Caroline finally says what she needed to say to Tyler after he gives the excuse that she's a good person, so that's why she's still getting attitude about her actions even though no one seems to care that Tyler's bite kills Nadia. Caroline's a vampire too, and yes, she has impulses and makes mistakes. Tyler still walked away from her. "So just get over it or get out of my life, but I'm done feeling guilty." Go Caroline!

Katherine always has a plan, but… When Katherine shows up to Bonnie at the end in the church, she gives a whole speech about how "Elena wins again," which she's sick of, but when she found Wes' body, she took advantage of the situation. "Elena had the life I always wanted. Well, until now," she tells Bonnie. She wasn't going to let her daughter die alone, "but Katherine Pierce wasn't about to go gentle either." She stabbed herself with one or Wes' syringes. If Katherine can't have Stefan, no one can, she explains. With that, Katherine's ready to go, but she's not going anywhere, no matter how many times she touches Bonnie. Instead, wind begins blowing in the church, and Bonnie can only watch as Katherine's dragged away screaming to…somewhere.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 5 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on the CW. What did you think of episode 15 "Gone Girl"?
