The Thursday, Feb. 14 installment of "The Vampire Diaries" season 4, episode 14, "Down the Rabbit Hole," showed even more trouble for those on the island while those in Mystic Falls realized they needed Klaus' help.
This "Vampire Diaries" episode saw Shane lead Bonnie, Jeremy, and Massek to the well, at which point Massek demanded his payment (the tombstone, made with Qetsiyah's blood) before leaving. When they reached the bottom, Bonnie cut her hand and Jeremy bandaged it. She promised him she wouldn't let Shane raise Silas and she'd kill him if he tried to hurt either of them. Bonnie's blood seeped into the floor—and below. When Shane joined them, he said the perfect circle was the spot. He coached Bonnie into pulling the power into her using Jeremy and the Mark disappeared. The well caved in around them. When they got up, they left Shane behind with his broken leg. Bonnie wondered how they made it so far, but they were both glad they were there together. Jeremy watched as Bonnie talked to her Grams, who told her Silas could bring her back. He stopped her and told her he'd be able to see her if she was really there. He had her keep her eyes closed while he led her forward. They found the body underneath and Jeremy wondered how it would cure every vampire in the world. Bonnie realized it wouldn't. They couldn't pull it free, but Bonnie realized they needed to feed Silas more blood and wake him up to get it free.
Damon was in Vaughn's clutches, and the hunter knew all about him and his friends. He led him along to the well, explaining he was going to kill Silas and using Damon to get to Bonnie. When Damon tried to explain they didn't care about Silas, Vaughn revealed he needed to put the cure down Silas' throat to kill him—and there was only one dose. Damon told him he didn't care about the cure and didn't know why anyone wouldn't want to be a vampire. He admitted his friends wanted it and he wanted them to have it before asking why he saved his friends. Vaughn told him it wasn’t him. And then they found a dead body—and neither was responsible for it. At the well, Damon freed himself from the rope and said he was getting to the cure. Meanwhile, Rebekah had learned there was only one dose and knew when she told Stefan about it that he'd give it to Elena, so she took him out before joining Vaughn and Damon. While the Hunter couldn't kill her, he had some fancy toys, such a stake bomb, to incapacitate her for the time being. He left Damon tied up when Stefan and Elena, who had realized they needed to give the cure to Klaus to keep him from killing them all, showed up.
Stefan sent Elena ahead while he helped Damon. Once he did, Damon sent Stefan after Elena because he didn't want her to take the cure. And it looked like she could use some help because she was attacked. But Stefan found Shane sitting on the ground, and Shane insisted he didn't know there was only one cure. He just wanted to bring back his family. Now he knew what it was like to lose hope, and Stefan left him there. Shane once again saw Caitlin, who told him everything would be fine. Meanwhile, Rebekah came to and wondered why Damon didn't go with them. He said he made peace with the fact that he couldn't control everything. She knew what Elena becoming human could mean for him and told him he was becoming "a half-way decent person." Oh, and as for where Vaughn went? He came up behind Bonnie and stabbed her, telling Jeremy they had to raise Silas.
In Mystic Falls, Caroline learned from Elena what had happened and went in search of the Hunter's Sword. She and Tyler returned with it and learned that they needed to speak a dead language to translate it. Fortunately Klaus spoke it and did translate it for them, smiling when he found the "something else" of it. And when they emailed what they found to Rebekah, Klaus said he hoped she got to live and die as she wished—and told her about the one dose. Caroline and Tyler quickly hung up. Tyler wanted to leave town to stay alive, but Caroline told him to let her talk to him. She went inside and told Klaus he couldn't kill Tyler. But Klaus had a reputation to uphold (and more importantly, he wanted to). Something he picked up on was that Caroline wouldn't take the cure if she could; she liked how she was. If they were the same like he said, she wanted him to show her his compassion by showing Tyler the mercy she'd show Klaus. He agreed and said to tell Tyler to leave town immediately. He was only giving him a head start. And that meant Caroline and Tyler had to say goodbye yet again in yet another emotional scene for the couple. He reminded her they were immortal and they'd find a way back to each other. "What if we don't?" She asked, telling him to tell her he'd forget about her, live a happy life without her, and never think about her. He kissed her. "Until we find a way," she said before he left. Klaus joined Caroline on the porch and told her something must've happened to Bonnie. He wouldn't hurt her and told her he showed kindness, all for her, before leaving.
And this week's endings were… Jeremy ran to Bonnie's side while Vaughn bled his hand over Silas. What followed was a fight between the two hunters. Vaughn took him down, but Elena intervened...or did she? Stefan found Elena bleeding and told him "she's here." Jeremy insisted on helping Bonnie first, but Katherine had enough of playing nice and forced Jeremy to feed Silas. She grabbed the cure, and Silas snapped Jeremy's neck. But is Jeremy really dead?
