Try not to be too obvious, please, Stefan. That's our first thought when it comes to the sneak peek the CW released on Tuesday, April 29, from this week's episode of "The Vampire Diaries," "What Lies Beneath."
In case you forgot the big secret, Stefan and Enzo faced off in the last episode, "Man on Fire," after Enzo flipped off his humanity switch upon learning it was the other Salvatore brother – you know, his murder buddy, his only friend – who killed Maggie on election night in 1960 and kidnapped Elena. While Damon brought Elena back safely to her dorm room, Stefan and Enzo's fight ended with the latter pulling out his own heart using Stefan's hand – and leaving the other vampire to figure out what to tell Damon.
Well, he didn't tell him anything. Instead, he let Damon believe his friend had skipped town, and now he and Elena have this secret they have to keep, all while the three, plus Caroline, will be chilling out in a cabin in the woods in this week's episode. The thing is, Enzo stuck around, and he wants revenge, so is he the "ghostly presence" using violence and fire in the cabin? (The answer is likely yes, but with this show and what's happening to the Other Side, anything is possible.)
Now, in the "What Lies Beneath" sneak peek, Damon has turned to Luke to locate his "missing" friend (the lack of "a body count all the way to the airport" is suspicious) – and he doesn't see anything wrong with his reaction to the "Wonder Twin's" progress. "Damon, I know you're out a friend, but I'm not sure this guy's the best replacement," Stefan comments. "I don't think this guy's the best anything," his brother says, but he's stuck with him since Liv is "tired of being almost murdered."
Luke blames "something weird" with Enzo for why he can’t find him, and when Stefan finds out why he has Luke there, he starts with the questions and latches onto the possibility of a witch's cloaking spell. "Why don't you just drop it?" Stefan suggests, but how long is he going to be able to keep Enzo's death a secret? We're guessing the answer isn't "longer than this episode."
"The Vampire Diaries" season 5 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on the CW. What do you think of this episode 20 "What Lies Beneath" clip?
