The Val Air Ballroom (301 Ashworth Road in West Des Moines) will be hosting the Bottoms Up Blues Bash on Saturday, March 2. March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and the event's proceeds will all go to DavidsFight.org, an organization working towards raising awareness and battling the disease in Iowa. Doors at the Val Air will open at 6 p.m., and the event will kick off at 7 p.m. Tickets for the fundraiser are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, and they may be purchased at the Val Air box office or online through TicketWeb.
The Bottoms Up Blues Bash will feature performances from The Bel Airs and Matt Woods & the Thunderbolts. The Columbia, Missouri-based rhythm and blues band the Bel Airs have been performing for more than 30 years and are regulars in Central Iowa. Matt Woods & the Thunderbolts are a Des Moines blues band that got their start back in 2005. The band has twice won the Iowa Blues Challenge and twice made the semi-finals of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. Woods represented Central Iowa in the most recent International Blues Challenge in the Solo/Duo category.
