The Vagina Monologues Hits Atlanta, GA

By now a lot of you have heard about the infamous Vagina Monologues. I get excited every time I think of this wonderful production by Eve Ensler. The play is comical, informative, heartwarming, and completely uninhibited as women show the strength of getting in touch with their true selves. Maybe you’ve seen the Vagina  Monologues before or you’re a newcomer and this is your first time hearing about it. Whatever the case, The Vagina Monologues are headed to Atlanta, GA. So what makes this showing so special? Let’s first begin with a synopsis of the production.

Actress, playwright, and political activist Eve Ensler was talking with a friend who was going through menopause in the 1990s when she was first struck by the way women spoke about their bodies, which she believed was a reflection of how they felt about themselves and their gender. Ensler was inspired to write a series of essays on women, their bodies, and the language they used to communicate about themselves which she adapted into a performance piece she called The Vagina Monologues. Opening at a tiny off-off-Broadway theater, The Vagina Monologues soon became a hit in New York City which spread around the world, becoming an international phenomenon.

Now here’s what makes this a production like no other.

M.PoWeR Productions in association with Perfect Muse Productions is proud to present Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues directed by Onyx Keesha.

Both of these production companies are powerhouse organizations owned by women with a drive to uplift and inspire their community. Natalie Simone, the founder of Perfect Muse Productions, is also the author of “Girls Just Don’t Do That”, and stage play, “Only God Can Judge Me”.  Onyx Keesha who will be directing The Vagina Monologues has directed shows around the country and has over 15 years experience in acting, directing, and leadership.

I have been backstage at the rehearsals for this upcoming production and the cast is nothing less than spectacular. This is a cast of seasoned actors, dancers, poets, musicians, choreographers, and all around dynamic women. They come to each rehearsal ready to put their best foot forward and take Onyx’s direction without pause.

Mark your calendars and prepare to see The Vagina Monologues and Atlanta in an entirely new light.
