After waiting in anticipation for almost three years, UNC Charlotte will kick off the first football season of the school’s history. The Charlotte 49ers will take on the Campbell Fighting Camels in the Inaugural game on August 31, 2013 at the McColl-Richardson Field in Jerry Richardson Stadium. This will be the first of three consecutive home games played by the Charlotte 49ers to commemorate this historic season.
Completed in October of last year, the long awaited Jerry Richardson Stadium is conveniently located directly on the campus of UNC Charlotte and seats approximately 15,000 spectators. Former Wake Forest Defensive Coordinator Brad Lambert will serve as head coach for this first time in his extensive coaching career. The 49ers will compete as a FCS Independent team their first two seasons before going on to become members of the FBS conference, competing in Conference USA football.
This monumental day is guaranteed to be a fun day had by all because the football game is not that fans have to look forward to. Gates open at 10:30 A.M. so that guests will have the opportunity to view the new stadium and take part in fan activities before kickoff at 12 P.M.
