The Ultimate Fighter 10: The Heavyweights Finale will air live on Spike TV tonight at 9pm EST/PST from the Pearl at the Palms Resort in Las Vegas. As usual, the west coast will be on a tape delay, so I will be airing the live results from the under card as they come in, as well as the main card play-by-play..
The main event of the evening will be the light heavyweight match up of Matt "The Hammer" Hamill going against the undefeated Jon "Bones" Jones.
Also, the internet street-fighting sensation known as Kimbo Slice will be taking on Houston Alexander in a catch-weight special attraction bout.
The Ultimate Fighter season 10 finalists, Brendan Schaub and Roy Nelson will square off to see which one will become the next ultimate fighter, and get the six-figure contract that comes with it.
Main Card:
Dana White makes the announcement that Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz will be the coaches in the next Ultimate Fighter season 11. He also announced, as I have reported already, TUF 11 will consist of only middleweight fighters.
Roy Nelson vs. Brendan Schaub for The Ultimate Fighter Contract Rd 1- Schaub uses his reach and quickness to dominate the majority of the round, although he did get taken down, and kept his composure. They trade shots and then Nelson lands a huge right hand that puts Schaub to sleep! Roy Nelson def Brendan Schaub via KO Rd 1 (3:45) and is The Ultimate Fighter.
Matt Hamill vs. Jon Jones Rd 1- Jones litterally man-handles Hamill, punishing him after getting the full mount. Jones used 2 or 3 illegal 12-6 elbows and the referee stops the action to take a point from Jones. Hamill says he cannot continue. It looks as if they are going to give the win to Jones, according to Rogan and Goldy, which would be wrong. Hamill def Jones via Disqualification due to the illegal elbows.
Kimbo Slice vs. Houston Alexander Rd 1- Houston circled Kimbo for over 2 minutes without any blows being thrown. Alexander then worked the leg kicks, obviously not wanting to brawl. I score it for Alexander 10-9.
Rd 2- OMG! Kimbo rocks Houston and takes him down! Kimbo is winning on the ground, slamming and dominating Alexander. Kimbo showed he has been training and even attempted a submission. I score the round for Kimbo 10-9.
Rd 3- Both fighters look tired, Alexander looks absolutely exhausted. They look to finally square up and brawl. Both land decent shots but nothing fight ending. Houston lands another great leg kick which drops Slice. Alexander tries to pounce but is spent. Alexander lands a good punch to end the round. Amazingly the fight goes to decision. I score the final round for Slice 10-9. Kimbo def Alexander via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
Frank Edgar vs. Matt Veach Rd 1- Veach got in three really big slams and takedowns, which I think won him the round, but barely. Edgar came on strong at the end of the round with his quickness and accuaracy. I score it for Veach 10-9.
Rd 2- Veach looks winded to start the round and it shows as his shots are lacking. Mid-way into the round, Edgar lands a big left that drops Veach. Edgar pounces on him landing strikes from the mount and eventually gets the back of Veach, sinks in the rear naked choke and gets the tap. Edgar def Veach via Submission(rear naked choke) Rd 2 (2:22)
Marcus Jones vs. Matt Mitrione Rd 1- Jones controlled the majority of the round, solid takedowns and positioning. Mitrione was visibly better in the striking and phased Big Baby towards the end of the round. I gave that round to Jones 10-9.
Rd 2- Mitrione clips Jones to begin the round, dropping and knocking out the Darkness. Mitrione def Jones via KO Rd 2 (:10)
Preliminary Card (may not be televised):
Darrill Schoonover vs. James McSweeney- McSweeney def Schoonover via TKO at 3:20 Rd 3
Jon Madsen vs. Justin Wren- Madsen def Wren via Split Decision ( 30-27, 29-28 Madsen, 29-28 Wren)
Brian Stann vs. Rodney Wallace- Stann def Wallace via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
John Howard vs. Dennis Hallman- Howard def Hallman via KO at 4:55 Rd3
Mark Bocek vs. Joe Brammer- Bocek def Brammer via Rear Naked Choke at 3:36 Rd1
