The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree lighting was held earlier today on the West Front Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The lighting of the tree is an observed tradition since the year 1964.
The tree is a towering sixty-five foot Engelmann Spruce, from the White River National Forest in Colorado;
Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the 2.3 million acre White River
National Forest is the top recreation Forest in the nation. Home to
world-renowned ski resorts and the birthplace of Wilderness, the White River

The event was hosted by Republican House Speaker, John Boehner.
Turning on the lights was Eagle Scout Ryan Shuster of Colorado Springs.
The U.S. Air Force Band played "O Christmas Tree," amongst other Christmas favorites.
The nightly lighting will be executed until the day following Christmas.
