If you have been knitting for awhile, you probably have come across a pattern that uses a Twisted Stitch, at times referred to as a Bavarian Stitch. This is a stitch you will want to add to your knitting stitch repertoire.
Twisted Stitches are a delicate column of graceful curves that wind their way through the pattern. Sometimes, they are thought of as a 1/1 cable stitch. Though they look as though they require a cable needle to complete, they are easier to work without using one.
By knitting the stitch through the back loop the result is a tighter stitch, allowing it to pop out above the other stitches for definition. Knitting through the back loop is abbreviated as "ktbl". The resulting tighter stitch creates a stiffer fabric.
The following are tutorials showing you how to knit the stitch.
Beate Zache walks you through a step by step photographed tutorial showing you how to cable without using a cable needle. Maybe you would also like to see the Twisted Stitch as a video by Berroco.
