'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' passes $300 million domestic box office, first 'Twilight' to do it -- According to Boxofficemojo.com, this weekend's box office returns on the re-release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse pushed the movie over the $300 million domestic box office sales mark. Eclipse is the first movie in the Twilight franchise, based on the bestelling series of vampire novels by Stephenie Meyer, to pass that figure in domestic sales.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, starring Robert Pattinson as vampire Edward Cullen; Kristen Stewart as human Bella Swan; and Taylor Lautner as werewolf Jacob Black was re-released in theaters over the September 10-12 weekend. Its initial release date was June 30, 2010.
The re-release was what pushed the domestic box office sales over $300 million. Foreign sales of the movie surpass that amount at well over $389 million.
The DVD/Blu-ray editions of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse are expected to be released in December, just in time for holiday sales. Eclipse is the third movie in a planned 5-part series of Twilight films. The fourth book in the series, Breaking Dawn, will be split into two movies. Production on the first one begins in November.
