Thursday December 26, 2013: The twelve days of Christmas begins today. These twelve days lead to "The Epiphany", a Christian festival held on January 6. In old traditions, Christmas was the time of receiving spiritual gifts... while Epiphany was the day for exchanging physical gifts. Epiphany honors the Magi who came bearing gifts for the Christ child.
Each of the twelve days that follow Christmas corresponds to a sign of the zodiac, beginning with Aries, on December 26, and ending with Pisces, on January 6. It is said that the coming year can be foreseen by observing the conditions on each of these twelve days. During the next twelve days it's important to pay attention to dreams, omens and signs because these days are the microcosm to the macrocosm of the coming year. These twelve days are an opportunity to set a positive tone for your coming year.
The word "Epiphany" comes from the Greek, meaning "to manifest", and in Old England it was said of Epiphany, "On the charms of this night will the harvest depend." Dictionaries defines epiphany as that moment in which you suddenly see or understand something in a new or very clear way.
What do you want to manifest during the coming year? How can you see or understand something in a new or clearer way?
On this first day of twelve, your intuition is high, your imagination stirred and you have an increased appreciation of subtleties. So allow yourself to be spontaneous and open to the new. Imagine, visualize and don't worry about how your desires will manifest. Don't limit your options by insisting that what you want can only happen in one particular way... be open to epiphanies that allow for innovation.
