Everyday that a person lives their existence should have as many observations and analogies that can be applied as they plod along. While we live and breathe then go into another level of life as we sometimes call Death we are often left with feelings of not actually saying and doing others the justice of truths.I recently spoke to several octogenarians who all had one misgiving to trade in if they could and that was to speak the volumes of truth that needs to be spoken. I asked each one what would their truths be? Some of them said on racism, some said on families, most said that it would be to change the way people interacted with each other, my feelings and sentiments exactly. My friend and I were engaged in conversation and a late lunch at the DC Library on 7th Street SE at about 6:00 pm on March 3 2013 while a European man and his son were on their way down the stairs to go to the Men's room. The man glanced over to my friend who by the way is employed ,married and as upright in this community as the next person and stopped in his tracks to let him pass on his right side. The man actually waited until my friend exited the bathroom before entering into the room with his son, I personally felt affronted but how do you convey those types of confrontations when you know that they are definitely racist but are so subtle and are bitterly contrived to seem as though they aren't. Capital Hill has been over run with people that wanted to come back into the city to live which is their right to do so, but they have to remember like it or not there are still a lot of Afro-Americans that still live, exist and interact within the streets of DC and are not going anywhere as long as there is home, life, friends employment and a history here in Washington DC. Many of the Washingtonians that I have interviewed have lost a part of themselves when it comes down to keeping some of their heritage and living in a Capital City.Even though there now are a majority of young white eager women and men living here trying to make sure that their careers are current and permanent there are still older Black families and their younger descendants that live here as well who have paved the way and had their own dreams as well in a City that embraces all who come to its shores!Racism and cynicism have no place here in a city that is as diverse as Washington DC and if nothing more each of us should try to work on being tolerable of the next no ,matter how foreign our cultures may seem to each other. All of us are human and have the same destinies as everyone else we all try to maintain and engage with others save money and live as graciously as we can and that is the truth that many want to have spoken NOW!
