Every year, in December, Pantone—a company known as the leading authority for setting standards to help utilize color across several platforms that began as a commercial printing company, now influences such things as fabric and paint—and delivers a prediction for the year’s most popular colors. The PANTONE® name is known worldwide as the standard language for color communication from designer to manufacturer to retailer to custom.
The top color chosen for this year was a rich emerald green, 17-5641. When you look at the website and specifically a collage board using emerald green, you can see why it is vibrant, saturated color in a good way and totally fresh. Here you can also purchase an emerald mug, download emerald wallpaper for your computer, or great a swatch card. Pantone also offers a very pricey color kit: PANTONEVIEW home + interiors 2013 color kit, at $500; or, an inspirational PANTONEVIEW inspiration for interiors 2013 design set at $650.
Pantone is a powerful entity affecting many of manufacturing decisions and forecasts and interior designers also make note of their predictions.
Trend forecasts are determined over time and show up in fashion and home products and according to Pantone, “Color is the catalyst that can spark the sale, define the space and create the magic and the mood.” They have already published a MAGIC Color Card Spring/ Summer 2014. Last year’s color was Tangerine PANTONE 17-1463 Tangerine Tango (2012).
