The TransWorld Skateboarding's summer contest series for 2013 the Come Up Tour

With no Gatorade Free Flow, Beast of the East, King of the Coast and no Red Bull Manny Mania's on the books so far, this year is looking pretty dismal for the contest crowd. Thankfully TransWorld and WeSC clothing have launched the Come Up Tour. The aim of the tour is to give the kids a chance who might not be able to make it to the skateboarding industry located in California. Talent shows up all over the country not just on the west coast. There are six stops across the country. All of which are spread out pretty evenly.

  • Stop#1 March 30.2013 Carmel Valley Skatepark in San Diego, California sponsored by Pacific Drive.
  • Stop#2 April 6.2013 Denver Skatepark in Denver, Colorado sponsored by 303 Board Shop.
  • Stop#3 April 13.2013 Familia Skatepark in Minneapolis, Minnessota sponsored by Familia Boardshop
  • Stop#4 April 20.2013 Piotrowski Skatepark in Chicago,Illinois sponsored by Uprise Skateshop
  • Stop#5 April 27.2013 Peoria Skatepark in Phoenix,Arizona sponsored by Cowtown Skateshop
  • Stop#6 May 11.2013 Lower Eastside Skatepark in New York,NY sponsored by Labor Skateshop

"This tour is a great idea. Contests are always a great way for skateboarders to get together. It's never about who gets first its about everyone getting together for a good time. I love the comradeship at a contest. Only in skateboarding would something that is supposed to competitive be about hanging out with your friends. Just wished they would have stopped by Baltimore. We (The Charmcity Skatepark) would have loved to host a stop! - Jason Chapman Owner the Charmcity Skatepark

TransWorld SKATEboarding Launches Inaugural Come Up Tour Presented By WeSC

PRESS RELEASE - April 2, 2013, Carlsbad, CA – TransWorld SKATEboarding has announced the first-ever Come Up Tour presented by WeSC, which is set to hit six major cities across the U.S. in an effort to support the local skate scene.

TWS staff will be touring the U.S. this spring, hosting skate jams and giving skate kids everywhere the chance to Come Up. By teaming up with local shops, the tour aims to reinstate a grassroots sense of community, bringing skaters together to hang out, and providing a rare opportunity to get recognized for their skills.

"Skating has way too much talent nowadays, and a lot of it gets overlooked because kids might not have connections that put them in front of the media’s eyes," says TransWorld SKATEboarding Editor Kevin Duffel. "These stops are an easy, no bullshit way for kids to get directly in front of our eyes and get recognized—to come up. There’s no middle man, no flying out to California to crash on the homie’s couch for a month in an effort to meet the right people, none of that."

The tour kicked off its first stop last week in San Diego at the Carmel Valley Skate Park, and was sponsored by local shop Pacific Drive. Next up, TWS makes the trek to Denver, Colorado on Saturday, April 6, in conjunction with 303 Boards.
"The TWS CUT is all about fun and connecting with the kids, which makes it a perfect fit for WeSC," says WeSC US Skate Program Director Chris Pastras. "Stop No. 1 was a blast! It's so great to see skateboarding thriving, and the WeSC crew is excited to help hype up the locals at each of these six stops. This is just the beginning!"

In determining the tour stops, TWS partnered with core shops and cities that have supported skating and helped their respective scenes grow, Duffel explains.
