The Top 40 in review: #25 Thia Megia

Without question, Thia Megia will be performing during the finale.

With only the possible exception of Barbara Padilla, no contestants remaining in the running for the million dollars seem capable of matching Megia. She was the very first million dollar prospect to be revealed at the end of Episode 3 of open calls, and while other performers did rise to the level at which Megia had set the bar, the judges failed to include the great majority of those acts in the Top 40 overall.

At 14, Megia may be just old enough to no longer warrant special attention as a child spoiler vote, but considering the strength of her voice, this is negligible. Megia is still under the minimum age requirement of American Idol, so the often-echoed gripe of AGT not being exclusively a singing competition is largely inapplicable to her.

As a young singer, she should be aware that her vocal chords are still maturing, a fact Piers Morgan will be almost guaranteed to bring up as she progresses, but with so many viewers already rallying behind her and so few critics citing her as a conspiracy theory’s intended winner, Megia is the absolutely top contender. If she chooses her songs wisely and paces herself accordingly, Megia could easily win this season.

Without a doubt, she is the current favorite to win this year.

I agree completely. She is the best by far. Now that she was voted off, there is no reason to watch the show.

To add insult to injury, all the Kevin Skinner fans and Grandma Lee fans have turned Thia Megia into a lightning rod of hate. Nothing truly amazes me more than how petty and hateful people can be when they want to be.

Her elimination will definitely be going on my updated list of greatest insults. That, the way the judges treated Manuela Horn, and the Vegas verdict overall.

How much does that suck; we're only one week into the finals and already I've got three new additions to the list. I really hope NBC gets new judges next year, because the way the current judges are handling things at present, I worry there won't be any need for an AGT Examiner after that.
