The Top 40 in review: #09 BRI

BRI is a forgettable act for two reasons. First because there is a very similar performer, Mia Boostrom, who has the benefit of being a repeat audition and is experiencing early waves of support.

Second, BRI performed a song by the Jonas Brothers at her respective open call. The judges may have included both BRI and the band G-Force thinking that AGT could capitalize on the same consumer base to which Jonas and other Disney-brand performers appeal, but they will likely learn the hard way that, not only do most Americans hate the Jonas Brothers, but that the majority of those who do like them will either be in bed before 9/8c or will be watching the Disney Channel instead.

In other words, while Boostrom is experiencing a wave of early support, BRI has a target on her back.

This may not be entirely fair to BRI, but it is what many viewers will see her as: Nothing more than a Disney Channel fangirl, and with Mia Boostrom competing in the Top 40 with her, even those viewers who absolutely adore her style of music have an alternative contestant they may consider. BRI is essentially at risk of being to Mia Boostrom what Michael Strelo-Smith was to Donald Braswell: an apparently lesser product that America was very quick to disregard.

Despite their similarities, it seems unlikely that BRI will ever surpass Boostrom on account of the latter’s early shows of support. She appears to have an easy way into the Top 20, but considering her competition, this isn’t saying much. With her voice, style, and even her name being so similar to Boostrom, she is likely to become this season’s Sarah Lenore: the performer that America can’t even remember the name of, only that she were a lot like another performer who made it into the Top 10.

so what if Bri performed a Jonas Brothers song that doesn't mean she is a Diseny fangirl i love the Jonas Brothers but i don't watch disney channle i like their music she may as well like their music to people need to lighten up!

    you are hysterical--Michael? was it?
Bri CANNOT STAND DISNEY! (she does like the song)
the show has final choice of songs and Bri did that as a "wink" toward commercialism on television.
Bri is a more polished, experienced, talented performer than the other girl. check out:

ever noticed the people the show features are
ALWAYS CRYING!!!! GIVE ME A BREAK! Bri is always laughing or smiling on the show, having fun in the moment.
Maybe she should make up a sob story and look like an idiot and cry and beg like the others, but she prefers to keep it real, choosing not to play "the game".
check out both girls myspaces and get back to me...DOUBLE DOG DARE YA!!!!!

Bri doesn't hate Disney, (I know her)but she is a classically trained musician, and Disney is not her market.
If this reviewer actually watched Bri's clip, he would have noticed that it was not Disney style at all. Disney song/"Bri" style.
I agree with the earlier comment about all the cry babies, Bri's smile is very welcomed after all the contrived hysterics from these contestants who loose their cool and poise.
It's a breath of fresh air to see someone enjoying their time on the show!

    *ahem*

The full statement was: "This may not be entirely fair to BRI, but it is what many viewers will see her as: Nothing more than a Disney Channel fangirl."

I never explicitly said that this was true, only that this is what she can (and will) be taken for.

Trust me, if there's one thing I've learned from being the AGT Examiner, it's that people can be really petty, biased, stupid, and above all else, hateful when they want to be. Really, I wish I'd kept track of how many comments to my Thia Megia article I've had to delete (the Examiner won't let me use profanity, so why should I let them use it?).

I'm sure Bri's a wonderful person, but America only got to see the Bri that I wrote my review about. This was just as much a critique as it was a warning. If the way she was depicted at the open call was wrong, she needs to prove it during her first live performance. Otherwise she won't be happy with the results.
