The Top 20 in review: #10: Tony Hoard & Rory

When Piers Morgan said that if Charles DeWayne Dorsey did not make it into the Top 20, it would be the biggest scandal in the history of AGT’s history, that wasn’t what he meant exactly. What he meant to say was that it would be the greatest scandal if Tony Hoard & Rory made it into the Top 20 instead.

Ever since AGT was reformatted to allow the judges to choose the fifth and final act to advance, the judges have made a reputation for abusing that privilege. Four of their six votes were followed by legions of viewers threatening to boycott America's Got Talent during Season 3: they put through the ZOOperstars over the Beyond Belief Dance Company, the Tapping Dads over Bryan Cheatham, Jessica Price over spoiler favorite Daniel Jens, and Joseph Hall (because Vegas doesn’t have enough Elvis impersonators) over the underdog favorite Jonathan Burkin.

They have not fared any better in the current season, so far averaging 1/4 judged correctly. Their unanimous vote for the FootworKINGz was understandable, but not their 2-1 votes over two young but bland dance acts (Arcadian Broad and Erik & Rickie) over a top contender (Thia Megia) and the comeback queen (Mia Boostrom).

But the idiocy of all of these 2-1 votes combined does not match the sheer atrocity of their decision to reject Charles DeWayne Dorsey, whom they had all previously agreed was a rising star, in favor of Tony Hoard & Rory, a dog whose only talent is to catch frisbees but who could only catch them two thirds of the time.

It is therefore not an exaggeration to say that, with the exception of David & Dania from the first season, Tony Hoard & Rory may now very well be the most hated act in AGT’s entire four season history.

At the very least, the act has become synonymous with idiocy. Tony Hoard was an idiot to think his dog could win him a million dollars by catching frisbees, the judges were idiots for including him in the Top 40 in the first place, and tens of thousands of dog-loving Americans were idiots for voting for him anyway.

The most entertaining aspect of their Top 20 performance will be when Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff have to feign approval in order to pretend that their decision to include him was entirely justified. If any one act is going to cost any of the judges their jobs at the end of this season, it will be Tony Hoard & Rory.

Tony and Rory are FANTASTIC. I loved that act, one of the best ever. What, do you live under a rock somewhere? Rory has ten times the talent you have. Give up writing and learn to catch a frisbee with your mouth. You'll be a better fit in life and finally doing something someone cares about.

I think you are just a little confused, I would bet you could not even house train a dog. Just cause you are not on the show do be bitter. Let America decided, oh wait thy will not you!

I hope they go all the way! I also think that it is horrible that "his company" (that I know of vey well) would not allow him some time off. That just shows that most companies still care about their money and not about their employees. He had given 24 years of his life there. I guarantee with all the media attention they will try to give the job back to him. If that is the case I hope he runs from it, let them spend the money to hire someone new. What goes around comes back around... Go Tony and Rory!

I think after last night, Tony and Rory proved they deserved another chance. All the singers and many of the dancers are mediocre, but that dog is adorable and fun to watch and I cast every vote possible for him because it was the only act that I was not bored to death of after 30 seconds.

I loved Rory last night!! I get so tired of seeing the same thing over and over (endless singers and dancers).

I get so tired of singing acts. I loved Tony and Rory!! That is one thing that I like about AGT, there is such variety. I agree with "Really?" no need to be bitter Michael. And no need to call Tony or anyone else names. You IDIOT!!! I bet you don't like it either.

Tony is most certainly not an idiot for pursuing his dream. He showed in his audition what he and Rory could do, and in fact seemed surprised that he was voted through....after all not everybody wants to see an animal act. Tony lost his job that he'd held a very long time to be there in the finals.(boo to the horrible boss)

Kudos to him for his courage and for being such a fantastic pet parent......I wish him the very best.
