The Top 20 in review: #07: Paradizo Dance

There is hardly any disputing the fact that Paradizo Dance was one of, if not the most talented acts to perform during the second round of quarter finals.

Unfortunately, this is not saying much.

Paradizo Dance passed into the Top 20 along with four spoiler acts out of the second round. While the first round is jam packed with spoiler contestants (seven in total), Paradizo Dance still has two serious competitors in Acrodunk and Drew Thomas Magic. All three of these acts are highly talented and could be considered spoiler acts themselves in the sense that they directly appeal to another voting base: the so-called American Idol separatists who want to see a non-musical act win for once on America’s Got Talent.

America knows that Dave and Zoey are talented, but the semifinals are usually when Piers Morgan begins to ask if acts are capable of doing an hour long performance. So far, they have already once committed one cardinal sin of America’s Got Talent: they have recycled material. America already knows that Zoey can lift Dave onto her back if he does a handstand behind her. They do not need to be reminded again.

The good news is that their two aforementioned competitors are under the exact same pressure. Acrodunk will be under additional pressure as the very nature of their act itself could be suspect to scrutiny. Drew Thomas meanwhile is under pressure to show the judges and America something they have never seen before, especially after he only succeeded in showing America something they had forgotten during the first round of quarter finals.

This means that Paradizo Dance could theoretically get away with using some repeat positions in order to fill out the entirety of their performance, but they should not count on it indefinitely. The judges are paying attention after all, and taking into consideration the two acts they selected to advance into the first round of semifinals, it would not be unfair to surmise that the judges have someone else in mind to ultimately win it all this year.

The healthiest thing Paradizo could honestly do right now is think of the judges as being the enemy. They will be looking for reasons to fault them, and the easiest way to prevent this would be to give them no reason at all.
