We start off with a stellar performance by the super-group Hellyeah, at number ten which features drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott of Pantera. In at number nine Motorhead, you can never go wrong with Motorhead, Lemmy has been doing this forever and shows no signs of slowing down. Redfang's performance at Orion managed to outshine many more seasoned bands at the festival, coming in at number eight. Mondo Generator and Clutch come in at seven and six at the same show, that also featured Saviors and Wino, what a killer lineup. At number five Anthrax at Mayhem festival, kicking out new and old hits. Ghost was number four with it's performance on Orion's mainstage, managing to make a broad daylight performance super creepy. The perennial favorite Slayer comes in at number three with their performance at Mayhem. The number two performance of the year was Hank III who played for nearly three hours at the Troc last March. He always puts on an incredible half country half metal show, barely catching his breath in between.
Of course number one is Metallica who headlined both nights of the Orion Festival in Atlantic City. They played "Ride the Lightning" in its entirety on Saturday night and "Metallica" aka “The Black Album” Sunday night. Both nights the aforementioned albums were book-ended by hits such as “Hit the Lights”, “Master of Puppets”, “One” and “Battery”. Stage effects really fired up the crowd during the encore which featured lasers lighting up the sky and an impressive pyro display during the intro to “One” and with a finishing touch of the high energy “Seek and Destroy” which an explosion of black beach balls emblazoned with the Metallica logo bouncing over the crowd. Metallica said several times they were already planning to come back to Atlantic City next summer, however it seems now they will be having the Orion Festival in Detroit MI this year. We hope they bring is back to this area for 2014. The Jersey shore could have used the boost this year after hurricane Sandy we are disappointed this festival won't be helping to promote much needed tourism to the Jersey shore.
