The top 10 cancer-fighting foods

1. Tomatoes: the vibrant red color in tomatoes is because of an antioxidant called Lycopene. Lycopene can protect healthy cells from damage, and actually destroy those aren't growing correctly. Eating plenty of tomatoes can actually absorb UV rays, potentially protecting your skin from cancer. Tomato-based foods such as ketchup, juice, paste, and soup, have more lycopene because heat during cooking releases more of this vital nutrient, allowing your body to absorb it easier. Cancer-fighting lycopene is also present in watermelons and pink grapefruit.
Tomatoes(lycopene) may fight/prevent: Lung cancer, endometrial cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and mouth cancer.

2. Legumes: Lentils, peas, beans, etc.. such simple additions to your diet can pack a huge punch in fighting off cancer with their naturally occurring phytochemicals, which include phytica acid (the main storage form of phosphorus in many plant tissues, particularly seeds and bran), protease inhibitors (a class of drugs used to treat or prevent infection caused by viruses), and saponins (glucosides with antitumor and anti-mutagenic properties).

3. Berries: Packed with antioxidants which may protect your cells from cancer-related damage. Berries are also believed to boost your immune system. Containing polyphenols (organic chemicals), these superfoods can reduce and repair damage to cells. Include them in your breakfast, have them for dessert, and as healthy snacks.

4. Whole Grains: Those that eat plenty of whole grains actually have a 21%-43% lower risk of getting cancer, as was discovered in a study done by the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. Refined grains have many of the nutrients removed during processing, but whole grains retain the germ and bran layers and other beneficial nutrients. High in fiber, whole grains can produce substances which occur when the grain is fermented in the colon, protecting cells from cancer-causing agents. Eat whole grain bread, brown rice, and whole grain cereals.
Whole grains may protect you from breast cancer, colon cancer, and stomach cancer.

5. Garlic: With more than just cancer-fighting antioxidant phytochemicals, garlic can also protect from heart disease, and boost your immune system. It is suggested that the compounds in garlic inhibit the formation and growth of colon tumors. Fresh garlic is probably better than dried garlic powder - crush it and chop it finely to add to many different main dishes.
Garlic can fight esophageal cancer, breast cancer, stomach cancer, lung cancer, and colon cancer.

6. Grapes: The skin of grapes is filled with antioxidants - particularly dark red, purple, and black grapes. This fruit is also known to be an anti-inflammatory, as well as working to keep cancer cells from growing, thus inhibiting tumors. Grapes are best eaten fresh in salads, fruit salads, or on their own as snacks. While wine contains the same compound, however, it is best not to drink too much as it has been linked to a higher cancer risk.
Grapes may fight stomach cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, and liver cancer.

7. Tea: The British and Chinese have the right idea, it would seem! Tea is bursting with antioxidants called catechins, which laboratory tests have discovered could stop the growth of cancer, and actually reduce the size of tumors that are present. Black tea and green tea have the most benefits (black tea contains caffeine, though), and green tea has three times more catechins than other types of tea. Drink as much as you like, but try to avoid adding sugar!
Tea may fight liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, skin cancer, bladder cancer, stomach cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer.

8. Dark green leafy vegetables, and cruciferous vegetables: Whether it's cabbage, Brussels sprouts, spinach, Swiss chard, rocket, broccoli, kale, or any other type of dark green, leafy vegetable, this food is full of natural, cancer-fighting chemicals which inhibit cancer cell growth, and rid the body of carcinogens. Eat the above veggies raw in salads or as snacks, or lightly steam them (don't boil to a mush, or they lose their phytochemicals when overcooked!)
Cruciferous vegetables can fight against pharynx cancer, larynx and esophageal cancer, skin cancer, mouth cancer, breast cancer, and stomach cancer.

9. Flaxseed: Lignans is an antioxidant found in flaxseed, and it is believed to help the body rid itself of carcinogens. Flax also contains cholesterol-lowering, omega-3 fatty acids, which research suggests reduces inflammation and can boost your immune system. Flaxseed can be used in cooking and baking (such as flaxseed meal, flour, and oil), plus you can sprinkle the ground seeds on salads and cereals.
Flaxseed can protect against breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, and colon cancer.

10. Apples: As well as being a great source of vitamin C and fiber, apples contain other beneficial phytochemicals, including Quercetin (a flavonoid that has shown anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties), triterpenoids (cancer-fighting goodness found in apple skin) and pectin (a soluble fiber which can help destroy free radicals).
Apples may fight against colon cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer. Most of the cancer-fighting nutrients are found in the skin of apples.
