'The Tonight Show': Guests sign on for last show with Leno, first with Fallon

NBC’s beloved “The Tonight Show” is set for a huge overhaul when Jimmy Fallon takes the helm from Jay Leno. Last week, TV By The Numbers revealed Jay’s guests for his last week, including his final, farewell show. On Jan. 19, the TV insider revealed Jimmy Fallon’s very first guests. So, the scenario is set for a few very big weeks on NBC.

Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon appeared together at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. Leno’s last appearance on “The Tonight Show” is slated for Feb. 6. Fallon takes over the helm on Feb. 17.

Jay Leno’s final week on “The Tonight Show” will be Feb 3, with his final broadcast set for Thursday, Feb. 6. Betty White will kick things off on Monday, to be followed by Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, Blake Shelton, and Billy Crystal.

Jay’s final “Tonight Show” will air on Thursday, Feb. 6 with guests Billy Crystal (who was also Leno’s first guest 22 years ago). In addition, NBC promises many surprises and guest appearances for Jay’s huge farewell.

The guest schedule for Leno’s final, farewell week on “The Tonight Show” is as follows:

  • Monday, Feb. 3: Betty White. The 91-year-old will make her 19th appearance on “The Tonight Show.”
  • Tuesday, Feb. 4: Matthew McConaughey. The 2014 Golden Globe and SAG winner and Oscar nominee will be joined by Charles Barkley.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 5: Sandra Bullock. The Oscar-winning actress will be joined by “The Voice” coach and Grammy Award-winning Blake Shelton.
  • Thursday, Feb. 6: Billy Crystal and Garth Brooks. This is Jay Leno’s final time hosting “The Tonight Show.”

The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics will air late night recap shows on NBC beginning on Friday, Feb. 7 and running through the Closing Ceremony.

After the Olympics, Jimmy Fallon takes over for Jay Leno, beginning on Monday, Feb. 17. As posted by TV By the Numbers on Jan. 19, Fallon’s first guests will be Will Smith and U2. Smith is one of the most likeable and bankable actors in Hollywood. Twice nominated for an Oscar (“Ali” and “The Pursuit of Happyness”), he is also an established recording artist who has won four Grammy Awards. U2 is one of the biggest rock bands in the world. The 22-Grammy Award winning band recently won its second Golden Globe for best original song for “Ordinary Love” from the movie “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.” The combined star power of Will Smith and U2 should be a grand slam for “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”

In addition to a new host, “The Tonight Show” will also make a huge move from Hollywood to New York City. “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” will tape before a live audience from Studio 6B in Rockefeller Center.
