The Toledo Museum of Art has a winner with 'The Art of Video Games' exhibit

Are you a video games enthusiast who just can't get enough of your Wii, XBox 360 or Playstation 3? If the answer is "Yes" to either or both of those questions then you don't want to miss paying a visit to the Toledo Museum of Art to see their special "The Art of Video Games" exhibition which explores the first 40 years of the video game industry running from now through September 28. Toledo, Ohio is approximately a 90 minute drive from Cleveland.

"The Art of Video Games" Organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, this educational, highly interactive exhibition focuses on four game types -- action, adventure, target and combat/strategy games -- using 80 of the best games from 20 gaming systems and home consoles (including Atari, Nintendo and Playstation 3) selected by the public to show the evolution of the video games medium.

The exhibition is split up into 5 different sections of video game eras -- Start ('70's - early '80's), 8 Bit ( early '80's -1989), Bit Wars (early '90's - mid '90"s), Transition (mid '90's - early 2000's) and Next Generation (early 2000's -today). Video games from each era are represented through video footage or still photos.

One of the spotlighted featured attractions of the exhibit is the chance for visitors to actually play 5 different games --Super Mario Brothers, Myst, The Secret of Monkey Island, Flower and the iconic Pac- Man (on a huge screen).

"The Art of Video Games" exhibition also features video interviews with artists and game developers, historic game consoles and even some concept pencil sketches for the game Fallout 3.

Hours for the Toledo Museum of Art are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon -5 p.m. on Sunday. The Museum is closed on Mondays.

Admission to the the Toledo Museum of Art is free but there is a $5 parking fee.
