Another Cleveland Browns season is upon us and as football fans across the nation get psyched for their teams’ seasons ahead, this diehard Browns fan eagerly anticipates the thrills of the opening day kick off and the annual reservations that come each year cheering for a sub five hundred team year after year. Could this year “be the year?” The Browns have teased their very loyal fan base for years that this could be the year, but to only leave its masses of fans across the country more heartache and having them looking forward to the annual NFL Draft the following April.
This Browns fan is ready. We’re going to win in week one(something the Browns have only done once since its return to the NFL in 1999). The Browns fan base is energized by its Browns Backers Clubs across the world( the largest organized club fan base in the world). For the next seventeen Sundays these Browns Backers will gather and cheer so hard trying to somehow magically create a win for their beloved Brownies.
That eternal hope is what drives this fan as it does the millions of Browns fans. The past Browns teams have provided many spectacular moments over the decades to hold its fans hearts just enough to make us fans bleed orange and brown until we cry. All Browns fans know far too well, “Red Right 88, “The Drive” and “The Fumble.” Ask any of us about those monumental moments in Browns history and you’ll see us stagger and mumble nasty words under our breath.
The Browns fans across this nation know how close this storied franchise has come to climbing the mountain and reaching the Super Bowl. And this is why every year we anticipate this moment right before the week one kickoff thinking, “This is going to be the year, Super Bowl, Baby!”
