At this point most of us are aware of the awesomeness and adaptability that one can get from having a tablet in our tech arsenal. But just in case you have been hiding under a rock or still believe that they are just the latest fad, please read on.
Yes a smartphone has no down time and can turn on in seconds and
can pretty much master most of the things that your iPad or Android tablet can do but who really wants to read about stem cell research etc. on a screen that’s about 5- inches wide. Seriously, there are certain things that require a full-page view. Also, the last time I accessed a movie on that thing, I lost interest in the plot somewhere between scrolling and buffering.
1) Weight loss
Just the idea of waiting for our desktops to boot up while trying to snag some internet time during a television commercial break is reason enough to have a tablet handy. Checking your fantasy football scores, searching for a new low fat way to make chicken incredible are great ways to kill time instead of snacking during that two-minute timeout from your favorite show. Distraction is important in the war of the waistline.
I know there are those who have and love their laptops and yes they are lighter than a desktop but they are not as slender and portable as a tablet. You just can’t drag your laptop easily from place to place. Plus, we’ve all attended one too many boring meetings where we wish we could quietly distract ourselves from a PowerPoint presentation than to pull up your favorite YouTube video: Blurred Lines anyone?
Yes tablets are able to do many of the things that your laptop, netbook and desktop can. Yes it’s great as an e-reader. Yes you can keep in touch with it through social media, email, twitter etc. But one thing that may not be completely obvious that if you are like me —the queen of all things nerdy having one of these things will make you look like you are in the know. As if you travel with the “it” crowd and are aware of off things happening. Sound shallow? A little but I am sure I can download an app on my Samsung Galaxy that will help me get over that.
