The thing about Christmas is that there is too much to do and not enough time to do it in. More is expected of you at home and at work; more money is to be made, more is to be spent and more bargains are to be had. And all of this up against the clock.
This means we have to start earlier and earlier preparing for Christmas and this is evidenced in the retail world when Christmas stock starts showing up on shelves before Halloween.
Just buying stuff takes time but actually making stuff takes even more time and inspiration. Sometimes an order or the promise of payment is inspiration enough but getting fired up enough to become creative about winter/Christmas/holidays when it is still summer or fall is not easy.
Artists have to begin designing, making, creating, painting when Christmas is a circled date on the calender months away. If not you miss the deadline, the prospective sale, the right moment for your creation to be appreciated.
So for anyone contemplating making Christmas cards, holiday themed gifts, tree ornaments, wintery paintings, start now for next year. This year's 'window' closed in October.
In that spirit I haven't bothered any artist for information or pictures at this, the busiest panic time of the year and instead will wish everyone Best Wishes of the Season, Merry Christmas and here is a seasonal painting I produced too late for the year I painted it but ideal to fill the space now.
