The Technicolors are a new, musically sophisticated young band with oodles of talent. their original songs have a wonderful eclectic 60s vibe. They also have a cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" which is well-sung but totally different from the original's sparse sweetness. It's everything a cover song should be, an homage to the original with a fresh take that makes it interesting to listen to.
The band hail from Phoenix, Arizona, and they've escaped across the Arizona curtain to visit Los Angeles. They blend grand gestures of rock-n-roll with elements of classic acoustic rock. Their ambitious new album "Listener" deluxe is available now on Bay Area Independent label, Tallest Man Records.
"Listener" was recorded over a span of ten days in January at a new studio in Phoenix called Studio at the Farm. Fresh off the road, The Technicolors had found a new energy and were anxious to make their debut album as a band after hitting the road hard in 2011 and 2012. "We would show up to these tiny bars with a lot of gear and get really loud. We love big songs," says lead singer Smiley.
Citing influences like Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, and the Travelling Wilburys, The Technicolors focused on creating a dynamic album of expansive songs that can be musically complex and artistic and still reach a vast amount of people. Listener weaves ambient electric guitar beds with searing solos punctuated with Smiley's earnest vocals reminiscent of Oasis and Wolfmother.
