The Teahouse at Lan Su Chinese Garden

Visitors to downtown Portland, OR should not miss this tranquil corner in Chinatown. Nor should they be in such a rush that they don’t spare time for fine teas and snacks served Chinese/Taiwanese style.

The Teahouse in the Lan Su Chinese Garden is in the Tower of Cosmic Reflections. The extensive tea menu comes with detailed descriptions about the characteristics and origins of each tea. Order your tea formal or informal style. Tea flights are available if you would like to sample more than one kind of tea.

Your server will show you how to make your tea the right way, starting from warming the cups, to sniffing the tall tea cups after the first rinse, to serving in the short tea cups.

Although I didn’t grow up drinking tea with snacks, when snacks are served, I cannot resist the temptation. Order the radish cakes or steamed buns, small exotic nibbles to tide you over till the next meal.
