The Taste of Charlotte 2014

This years’ event begins rain or shine Friday, June 6 and ends on Sunday, June 8 from 11 am until 11 pm, with the exception of shorter hours on Sunday. The festivities are located within a 5 block perimeter in Center City from Tryon Street and MLK Jr. Blvd. to 6th Street.

To those unfamiliar with the weekend long event that offers music, food, and shopping; The Taste of Charlotte event is exactly what the name states. Over 30 local restaurants competing for your taste buds with over 100 samples of their best dishes for a chance to display the Silver Platter Award after Fridays judging. There are five Best of the Taste award categories.. The following were winners from 2013:

Best Entrée – Brass arvery & Steakhouse
Best Appetizer - McCormick & Schmick's Seafood & Steaks
Best Dessert - Dough NY Style Bakery
Most Unique Taste - Woodlands Indian Cuisine
Best Decorated Booth - TCBY

What would a smorgasbord of food be without something to drink? The Tavern at the Taste is open each day during the event offering cold beers, a variety of wines, and Pepsi products conveniently located at The Center Stage that will showcase live entertainment daily.

In addition to the food and drinks, there are vendors in the Marketplace section (between Trade Street and 5th Street) offering clothing, gifts, jewelry, and items for the children including face painting.

As you make your way along each block, there are Crossroads Kid’s Activities at every turn that includes rides, games, and inflatable bouncers all weekend long.

This is the first year that the annual 5K Race to the Taste run will be held. Proceeds from the race will be donating to the Charlotte Checker’s Charitable Foundation. The race is Saturday, June 7th at 9 am.

Many of the vendors for The Taste of Charlotte accept coins that may be purchased individually or in bulk for at least $20 and for all day entry to the kids’ activities wrist bands are available for $15. Most food and drinks require 1 to 5 coins.

In its’ 16th year and growing every year, the Taste of Charlotte has something for everyone.
