Tonight was the premiere of “The Taste” a combination of the The Voice with a touch of Chopped, mixed with the ruthlessness of Masterchef. This is the second season for this cooking show that features mentors/judges that are renowned chefs and food critics themselves. Nigella Lawson, Anthony Bourdain, Ludo Lefebvre, and Marcus Samuelsson will be the member on the panel replacing Brian Malarkey.
One taste will decided the fate of each cook, whether they become part of a team or are sent home, and once the competition begins, the judges will decide on which cook succeeded or failed based on one spoonful without knowing which chef prepared what, so yes, any one judge could easily wind up voting against one of their own team members.
The teams are made up of 4 chefs or home cooks each, there was the drama that some contestants bring, others who are just delusional as the cook who claimed he would annihilate everyone and actually he wasn’t picked by any of the mentors they all found flaws in his dish, But there was a first also, chef Lee who was an executive chef for 3 years and presently finds himself waiting on tables, managed to get all 4 mentors to vote yes, at the end he picked Anthony.
“The Taste” runs on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. EDT on ABC.
